November 8, 1974, marked the end of a dream and the beginning of a reality: the incorporation of Martin Paving. From the start, the company set out to fill a clear need in the community—a paving contractor committed to the highest standards of workmanship and quality, without shortcuts. That vision gave rise to its original motto: "We can do it better because we care."
Operations began modestly, with Leon Martin serving as salesman and crew foreman while Clara Martin managed the office from their family home. Within a year, their three sons—Jerold, Leon Roy, and Galen—joined the effort, bringing hands-on experience and a shared determination to go the extra mile for every customer.
The company soon outgrew rented space in Ephrata and relocated to a renovated building in Brickerville. Growth continued, and in 1987 a new, purpose-built facility was constructed there to house expanded equipment and a workforce of more than 50 employees.
Over the past 50+ years, the Martins have guided steady expansion. In 1987, Martin Road Oil was established to resurface roads and high-use areas—farm lanes, parking lots, municipal streets—that don't require full asphalt replacement. Equipped with a computerized chipspreader and oil distributor, the division delivers precise, clean results every time.
In 1998, Martin Reclamation launched to rehabilitate and strengthen failing pavement. Starting with a single asphalt reclaimer, it has grown to include a cement-spreading truck and specialized compaction equipment.
Today, leadership has passed from the second to the third generation. Much has changed in five decades, but the founding commitment to quality and service endures—a promise forged across generations. This is truly "Paving with a Promise": the assurance of the best possible job, every time.
Certainly, "The Lord has done great things for us, whereof we are glad." (Psalm 126:3)
